What is SAFE EMDR?
If you’ve ever felt stuck in old patterns, memories or emotional reactions, you’re not alone. As I was seeking evidence-based interventions to better work with clients with trauma, I became trained in the Somatic and Attachment based EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing). SAFE EMDR is based on traditional EMDR, a proven therapy that helps the brain reprocess painful memories, so they lose their emotional intensity. SAFE EMDR adds something important to EMDR by focusing on attention to the body (the “somatic” part) and to the healing power of connection (the “attachment” part). Instead of diving straight into painful memories, SAFE EMDR begins by helping you learn how to stay grounded and calm. Together, as the client and therapist we will build safety, trust, and awareness of what’s happening inside your body.
The deeper trauma processing begins when you are ready. This makes the work gentler and often more effective for people with complex or long-term trauma. Healing doesn’t have to mean reliving the past- it means feeling safe enough to release it. I offer a supportive space to help you reconnect with your body, your emotions, and your sense of self.
